“Seize the Day” with Wheat, Gypsum and Nutriloc Trevor Larke is one of the Farmer’s Markets most loyal and consistent stallholders. At every market Trevor sells wheat, gypsum and Nutriloc to a string of regular customers who often attend the Markets specifically for Trevor’s products. Trevor grows the wheat on his 100 year old family farm in Corrigin and spends his time between there and his home in Gelorup. “I love the markets because of the interaction with people and the chance to sell direct to the customers” says Trevor. “Customers regularly ask about the produce and enquire about the uses etc which is an opportunity that can not be obtained from supermarket shopping”. Carpe Diem grows a variety of wheats including Westonia and Whylkatchem. These are premium hard, high protein wheats and their main use is for bread making but Trevor’s customers mainly use it for poultry. Some Market customers grind it to make their own bread. Carpe Diem wheat was voted Best in the West in 1987. Trevor’s other products are gypsum and Nutriloc. Gypsum helps water infiltration for hard clay soils and is a good natural fertilizer consisting of calcium sulfate, while Nutriloc is great for sandy soils as and alternative to a wetting agent. Trevor also has a bit of an artistic streak and occasionally brings along his own garden ornaments made from metal that he has found lying around the farm.
